20/12/16 – The Long Term Project

Yes…’Barn Find’ is a much thrown about phrase these days! This is a genuine one, however, which has been sitting in the same building, just off Cavan Main Street, since the late ’70s.

Here’s how we found it.

The barn itself has suffered badly over the years
Waiting in the darkness
A sorry state
In daylight for the first time in decades
Ready for the first leg of its new journey

It’s a basic  Mk2 Austin Mini which was built by Brittain Smith, Dublin, in 1969, but has suffered badly with the dreaded tinworm, since, and will require a huge amount of panels, time, money and effort in order to see the road again!

The all-important serial plate

On the plus side, the car is largely complete and original (except for the bootlid) so the parts list isn’t excessive.

The floors have seen better days
Later bootlid fitted
Unique Irish seat trim
Just missing its airbox

We’re calling this ‘The Long Term Project’, but it’s something we hope to document and update you on regularly, so watch this space!
